TAKING THE WILDFLOWER SHOW OUTSIDE!

Due to the government’s third wave Covid restrictions on event numbers, the Darling Wildflower Society (DWFS) announces with regret that it has had to cancel the 2021 flower show.

However, this year, as an exciting alternative to viewing the traditional landscaped display of wildflowers at an indoors venue, we have decided to facilitate guided tours and walks to several local flower reserves and farms, where volunteer guides from the DWFS will be available to lead walks into the veld. We are taking the wildflower show outside!

Additionally, instead of just the usual three-day event on the third weekend during September, we have realized that the new offering may realistically be extended throughout the two main spring flower months of August and September.

Fabulous local wildflower viewing options include the Darling Renosterveld Reserves, Tienie Versfeld Reserve, Waylands, Oudepost, Contreberg, Burgherspost and Groote Post farms. Further afield, !Khwa ttu San Heritage Centre, Buffelsfontein Game Reserve and the West Coast National Park, amongst others, also offer wonderful wildflower viewing.
Local attractions like the Darling Museum and good value wine tasting and dining options will of course also be available to visitors.

Arrangements for picnic baskets, snack boxes or luncheons can be made when booking DWFS guided tours at 084 916 1111. Online bookings can be made via the contact page on our website: www.darlingwildflowers.co.za

Covid restrictions will be observed if the walking or tour groups are kept small and the wearing of masks, social distancing and hand sanitizer protocol is followed.

We wish everyone a wonderful 2021 spring flower season. Join us outside!

Darling wildflowers promise spectacular display after wet winter!

The West Coast with its wide open spaces, less populated towns, and diverse outdoor activities makes for a safer travel option amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Voorkamerfest 2018: 31 Aug – 2 Sept

voorkamerfest2018.jpgVoorkamerfest is BACK with a passion and renewed energy to enchant and delight the lucky ones who manage to get a ticket.

Voorkamerfest is usually sold-out every year, so prepare yourself for the weekend-comeback of your life: Friday 31 August, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September.

For those of you who have never experienced this truly South African cultural experience – this is what you are in for!

Festival-goers arrive at Evita se Perron 8 Arcadia Street in Darling, collect their colour coded tickets for various routes of different colours. They then queue for a taxi ride to their first venue where the first 25 minute performance starts, after which the taxi will take them to the second 25 minute adventure and then a third 25 minute surprise experience, returning thereafter, via the local taxi to Evita se Perron to enjoy the market vibes and connect with friends who have been on different routes, sharing their unique experience all over again! So within 100 minutes, three worlds of magic will be celebrated and new friends will be made. Owners of the homes are the theatre managers for those three days in September. After the years of experience, the people of Darling know how special each one of them has become to the success of this project!

Voorkamerfest was founded in 2004 by Inge Bos and Wim Visser, with help of Pieter-Dirk Uys and the inhabitants of Darling.

Founding sponsor is Stichting Doen (NL)
