Pieter-Dirk Uys, actor, satirist and HIV/AIDS activist will receive a Teddy Award for outstanding lifetime achievement at the Berlin International Film Festival on 18 February.
This is the 25th year that the prize is being awarded and previous winners include Pedro Almodovar, Gus van Sant, Derek Jarman, Helmut Berger, John Hurt and Tilda Swinton.
Pieter-Dirk Uys received his prize in the category outstanding personality for his tireless work in HIV/AIDS education as well as his work as entertainer Evita Bezuidenhout. On 20th February Tannie Evita will perform Desperate First Ladies in the Jewish Museum in Berlin where Pieter Dirk Uys’ late mother’s piano is now kept.
